THE ROSE Sedona, Arizona

The Rose is the most high-end home that I designed for Michael's Ranch subdivision (click here to see floor plans for the Rose, and Michael's Ranch subdivision information).

I love the form and function of this residence. The Rose is designed to take views from the front of the building, however in this case there are also large expanses of glass to the back of the house. The style of the home is southwestern contemporary with a side entry featuring overhead vegas.

The residence contains three bedrooms and two bathrooms and features a split floor plan, which means that the master suite is on the opposite side of the house, completely separate from the two secondary bedrooms.

All of the ceiling, window and door heights are considerably higher than standard construction. The ceilings are 10 feet throughout except for the living room, which has a 12-foot ceiling. In this home all the windows and doors are set at 8 feet high, compared to the standard window and door height of 6 feet 8 inches. The addition of transoms above some of the windows brings the window height in places to 10 feet. The higher ceilings and higher window heights create a great deal of interior volume, thus creating the feeling of a larger home.

The most important feature, that gives such grand feeling to the home, is the large open great room which houses the living area, dining area and kitchen, without interruption. A double-sided freestanding fireplace gives the understanding of separation between living room and dining room, with the kitchen beyond.

Intimate dinners beside a roaring fire in the dining room and later conversation beside a fire in the living room provide for a great entertaining home, as do the covered patios where one may take in the extraordinary red rock mountain views of Sedona!
