LAURA PHILLIPS DESIGN was established to focus on exceptional and innovative residential and commercial projects.
Your home can enhance your wellbeing, bring daily enjoyment and be a constant invitation to be at one with the surrounding natural environment.
Often my duties begin with raw land and extend to the smallest detail of furnishings and landscape design. I care deeply about each and every one of my designs.
An overview of my services includes: full architectural design/construction documents, renovation design, sustainable design, and interior design. Some areas of special expertise are listed below. For more details, click here for services.
I love what I do and the people I do it for. My number one goal is to achieve my client's vision. Working closely with you and meeting as many times as necessary until I have a design that exceeds every one of your expectations.
I sometimes employ photographic tools to make certain that I really "get" my client's style, budget, and desires for the project. My staff and I can provide any level of visual design representation, from preliminary conceptual perspectives to a furnished scale model.
I strive to design environments that are original, impeccable, inspiring, gracious, and romantic, with a timeless quality. How a building "feels" is of the utmost importance to me; it is crucial that every inch of the space feels inviting and comfortable.
My residential projects are very much geared to entertaining, and are practical and extremely functional. I make extensive use of glass to maximize views and provide a warm, light filled space. All of my projects reflect an interest in modern living and a desire to connect my clients with the beauty of the surrounding natural environment, eroding the division between indoor and outdoor space.
I have never felt the need to limit myself to any single building style. As shown in my web site, I work in many architectural styles, such as contemporary, southwestern, authentic Spanish colonial, and my unique version of traditional. No matter the style, the signature of my design ethic shines through.
Having traveled extensively in Europe, I have taken note of just what makes the "buildings of old" so remarkable and mysterious. Those elements such as a strong sense of stability, eloquence, spatial drama, cast stone details, striking fireplaces, grand staircases, high ceilings, thick walls, stained glass, ironwork, and smaller details too numerous to mention, translate well into any architectural style. Because of the unique and dramatic nature of my designs, many of my homes are used as movie sets. Extremely detailed specifications for all of the elements of the design are included in my drawings.
Every project begins with a thorough site analysis. I put together a full spectrum of information about the property for your consideration. Site analysis topics include climate, topography, drainage, governmental agencies, covenants, soils, electrical, telephone, natural gas, sewage, well, solar orientation, winds, existing landscape, privacy, and neighborhood characteristics. The combination of all these factors, and the client's instructions, create a template to begin the design process.
Once I have a presentable package, I meet with you and discuss the design. I strive to have a close design relationship with you and adjust the design as many times as needed, before proceeding to the construction documents. At this stage I work with all my coordinating engineers to compile a set of permit drawings. Once these drawings are approved by the appropriate agencies, construction can begin.
My staff and I pride ourselves in being a vital part of the construction phase, and are always available to answer questions. Our goal is to complete an impeccable masterpiece as the final product.
"No detail is too small for the closest scrutiny of the architect."
