PROTOS INC/MODEL HOME Sedona, Arizona

I was commissioned to design a model home for a subdivision in Sedona Arizona; each lot is about an acre in size.

Most of the lots afford views to the front side of the property. It was my desire and obligation to design a building with tremendous curb appeal and some real bang as the front door is opened. I was hired because of my ability to create dramatically appealing and functional residences. This is a home that I could easily imagine living in.

The budget was medium for the Sedona area. The style is contemporary with a touch of southwest. The exterior elevations are complex, featuring glass block, curved walls, overhead vegas, and thick wall treatments. The extended architectural walls and columns not only give dimension and interest, but provide support that allows for two 8 foot high walls of window area in the living room. Stepping out of the living area, the 17 foot deep covered patio provides shade, and shelter from the rain. The red rock views from the area are stupendous!

One of the most outstanding features inside the home is the spiral staircase, which is the first thing that you see when you open the entry door. The dining room and large expanses of glass are beyond, providing views of the landscaped courtyard to the rear of the home.

The interior of the residence has a lot of glamour; it is light and airy, with 10-foot ceilings in the main living area, an open floor plan, and is geared to outdoor living. The home incorporates a large open kitchen with a curved wall of glass block which provides interest, light, and screening from the entry area.

The house has a lot of privacy inside; the entire upper floor houses a master suite with fireplace and a lofted studio. Two bedrooms and a bathroom are on the lower floor. The view deck off the master bedroom has private access to the roof deck/hot tub, and there is also roof deck access from ground level for privacy and for guests. All of the rooms feature large expanses of glass.
